Company Description

Play & Learn is a nonprofit childcare and early education provider that operates and/or provides management services to a total of 14 programs, with 13 of them located in Montgomery County and one in Bucks County, PA. Play & Learn has been providing quality childcare and early education to children age 6 weeks through Kindergarten since 1981. All locations are licensed by the PA Department of Human Services, many locations operate a Kindergarten program licensed by the Department of Education, and our organization participates in Pennsylvania’s Keystone Stars quality initiative.

Position Overview

The Maintenance Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing maintenance at each of the buildings operated and managed by Play & Learn. The Maintenance Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring effective and efficient day- to-day facility operations, running preventative maintenance, overseeing vendors that provide critical building services, and maintaining accurate maintenance records. The Maintenance Supervisor will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer.

Job Description

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Assist in the development and execution of a facilities management and preventive maintenance plans; participate in the management and motivation of maintenance staff; develop an atmosphere of teamwork among maintenance staff, center-based program staff, and contractors; ensure appropriate expertise and resources are in place to meet requirements and respond to building maintenance requests in a courteous, timely, and highly effective manner; manage the repair, maintenance, and continuous operation of all building systems including: fire/life safety, Mechanical (HVAC, plumbing), Electrical (lighting control equipment, bulb replacement), and light construction (painting, doors, locks),

  • Supervise other maintenance workers on staff
  • Manage facility maintenance contracts
  • Coordinate all preventive maintenance and reactive repair maintenance activities in accordance with applicable early childhood licensing guidelines (i.e. Department of Human Services, PA Department of Education, National Playground Safety Standards, etc).
  • Respond to and coordinate all emergency call activities as necessary, including during non-operating hours
  • Manage maintenance of building exterior and grounds in accordance with facility leases and/or vendor contracts
  • Respond to building staff requests regarding building operations; prioritize schedules; and assign, plan, and monitor the work through online ticketing system (WorxHub)
  • Assist in coordinating required inspections, and regularly inspect all areas of the building and report deficiencies as well as suggestions for improvement
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with regulations; maintain up-to-date building documentation and certifications
  • When necessary, obtain vendor bids for recommendation to Chief Operating Officer
  • Maintain all required administrative records including, but not limited to, log books, work records, maintenance records, contractor visits, keys issued, maintenance worker driving records, van maintenance records
  • Collaborate with management staff to help develop and manage maintenance budget
  • Inspect facilities on a rolling basis to ensure maintenance quality

  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned
  • Create high accountability for one’s self as well as maintenance staff and vendors

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3 or more years of supervisory experience
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Familiarity with key building systems (HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing)
  • Familiarity with OSHA and other Life Safety codes, etc.
  • Computer skills necessary to operate maintenance request system; knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Organized with strong attention to detail and follow-through
  • Ability to communicate effectively with maintenance staff, admin and program staff, and vendors both verbally and electronically
  • Available to work evenings and weekends when necessary
  • Extreme flexibility, with a strong work ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit to accommodate high level of responsibility and multiple priorities
  • Able to pass all required clearances including FBI, National Sex Offender Registry, State Criminal and State Child Abuse.
  • Must have a valid PA Driver’s License and good driving record.
